Happy Holidays

Happy Holidays!

I hope you all enjoy your winter break.  Don't forget to read every day.  It is fun to escape into a great book especially on a rainy day.
You may also wish to continue practicing your coding.  Please remember to use the link on the bottom of this page if you wish to save your progress.
In the new year, we will continue to read the California Young Reader Medal Nominees in 2nd through 5th grades.  First Graders and Kindergarten students will begin to look at Nonfiction Books.  Where can they be found and how do I read nonfiction?
Have a great break.  Looking forward to seeing you on January 4!

Blogger New Look

Hi Kids,

I have begun the work of changing the library blog to make it useful for you.  I have added some new literature links on the right.  I have also changed some of the book suggestions.  Don't forget that you can click on them to see a trailer or related information.  I am always looking for new ideas for websites that are perfect for children.  So, if you have any ideas let me know.

We are continuing our work on internet safety this week. Some fun internet safety links are on the lower left.

Don't forget to keep reading!!!

October Already!?!

What a fantastic month we had in September.  I can't believe that October has arrived so quickly.  First through fifth graders are all checking out books and the Kindergarten and TK classes have begun to come into the Media Center.
October in the Media center means the beginning of learning about internet safety.  All students will be learning how to stay safe, responsible, and respectful when online.  They are all excited about using computers and know that this unit means the beginning of some fun and meaningful computer activities in the library.

Here are some amazing links for adults when helping your families with online safety:

Netsmartz at http://www.netsmartz.org/PARENTS
This is a wonderful site for watching videos on internet safety concerns.  Also contains games and suggestions for learning internet safety in a fun way.
 Common Sense Media https://www.commonsensemedia.org/parent-concerns
I often use this site as a parent to learn what movies, videos, etc. are fine for my children.  Also a great site for suggestions on technology and other forms of media.

Have a fun October and safe searching!!

Welcome Back!

Hello and Welcome back to school.  I am so excited to see so many eager faces of students ready to learn.  This year should be exciting with many new experiences as well as a few favorite old ones.

When do we get to check out???
This is my most popular question and the one I love to hear.  Students have begun checkout in grades three through five. Next week second grade will check out and first grade will follow that the week after.  The younger kids took a little longer so that they could review library skills and manners.
When is after school library open?
The library will be open after school beginning September 22.  We will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:05 to 2:30.

I can't wait to see you in the library!  Keep reading and find a new adventure.

Nonfiction Fun!

Students in all grades are gearing up for nonfiction reports.
Fifth grade students have various research papers due.  They have been learning about plagiarism and how to cite their sources.  This is a very challenging topic. However, students have been very patient hard workers.
Fourth graders have been creating a report about a California Landmark/Place to visit.  They have used Google Slides to create their presentations.  Reports will be presented beginning next week.
The students in both second and third grade have been looking at nonfiction text features.  They are discovering how to quickly find information and to be efficient when using these nonfiction tools.
The first grade students are also learning about nonfiction text.  They are discovering the parts of a nonfiction book.
Transitional Kindergarteners are learning about animals as we read animal books, practice animal yoga, and create animal pictures.
Everyone is working hard at this time.
